All materials and tools are provided.
This workshop is suitable for beginners. No prior experience necessary.
It will be a small in person group workshop, hosted by artist Hanna Varga at The Village Hall in Edale. The first of its kind organised in the Peak District.
Inspired by the local history of the ramblers and my continued interest in sharing my rope making practice through lifelong learning and community engagement.
Guest facilitators Bella Hardy and Sarah Lister will be joining us for parts of this workshop.
Apart from natural cordage making we will learn a rambling song and also go on an actual ramble outside.
We will be using plant fibres that are locally available in abundance to forage.
I will personally guide you on how to make natural string and rope by hand whilst teaching you about nature art, local flora, and the history of natural plant fibres.
Our craft workshop will be followed by a gentle guided walk in the Peak District Natural Park.
Those who choose to participate will receive further information prior to the workshop about how to prepare for the day (eg. what to bring and what to wear).
by hand,
on foot,
slowly,
together,
with patience,
we practice.
