The Foraging String Club

You are invited to join me on a 6 weeks adventure to experience an idea that I first tested last winter. We will learn and practice traditional reverse-wrap 2-ply string making by hand. We will begin this on the 8th of November online on zoom and each Wednesday (8 - 9pm GMT) thereafter.

These are the 6 dates I propose:

  • in November: 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th

  • in December: 6th and 13th

If you’d like to split the payment in two instalments of £25. You can do so here.

it is no longer possible to join this series of workshops.

All six sessions will be delivered live on Zoom videoconferencing software. This is a group community video meeting, with a short induction at the beginning of each session. This will be an invaluable opportunity to come together with others and practice what we learn. We will develop our skills with repeated regular practice of an endangered craft skill.

This workshop is suitable for beginners. No prior experience necessary.

You are welcome to join any of these sessions without prior preparation. Come as you are with your questions and enthusiasm. I will invite you to take part with what you have at hand.

Video participation is not compulsory, feel free to be silent and witness - video recordings will be shared with all participants after each session.

Those who choose to participate will receive a welcome pack with further information on materials, practices, and how you can best prepare for our meetings prior to the first meeting.

Hanna Varga will be hosting these sessions and will personally guide you on how to collect, select and gather natural foraged fibres and teach you how to make natural string and rope by hand whilst teaching you about nature art, local flora, and the history of natural plant fibres.

with patience.

I’m really looking forward to hosting this series of workshops and I need your help to make it happen! I hope you will consider joining us.

There was an instagram live Q&A on Wednesday 1st of November where many questions were answered. Hanna spoke to the value of craft, making by hand and about her thoughts on nurturing a relationship with the landscape. She shared some of the books she’s been recently reading, learning rope making and knot tying from. The general content and structure of this series of community gatherings was articulated at length. You can watch the recording of this event here.

If you have any further questions please feel free to send an email or a direct message on instagram.
