Fern Frond VIII
Fern Frond VIII
This piece is offered at half-price. I’ve taken into consideration the intricacy of the details that were preserved in the casting process and acknowledge the missing parts that failed to cast in this piece. Nonetheless, it is a singular artefact of beauty in itself. The price reflects the uniquely intricate flaws of this fern frond sculpture and is offered as seen.
These unfurling fern fronds were collected in the spring of 2019 in Dartmoor. They were cast in solid bronze at the Crucible Foundry in London using the traditional lost wax bronze casting technique.
The original organic fronds disappeared in the process and the moulds were broken when the castings were revealed. What we are left with are unfurling fern fossils in bronze.
Each frond is an entirely unique casting of nature made by Ashleaf, the small London-based art practice Hanna co-founded and was actively and collaboratively working in at the time these sculptures were created.
