Nettle Fibre to Rope | full weekend immersive course:
25 + 26 July
This July I’m offering a new series of workshops focusing on nettles - this wonderfully abundant pant specie that everyone can find walking distance from their home. Part of this workshop will take place outdoors and part of it at the Village Hall in Edale.
Please note, this will be a full-weekend non-residential series of workshops. 12 hours of teaching in total delivered over two consecutive days in 4 sessions.
We are going to start the weekend by foraging nettles outside (within walking distance from the workshop venue). Then this will be followed by fresh processing the nettles (indoors) to extract their fibres. Lastly, we are going to learn a simple ancient string making technique as well as rope making on a traditional rope walk.
You will receive full instructions & support to throughout the foraging & nettle fibre processing and rope making.
During this weekend over 2 days we are going to cover all aspects from foraging, processing plant fibres to cordage making and rope laying.
9am - 5.30pm on both Saturday & Sunday (with tea breaks + lunch break)
It will begin on a Saturday morning the 25th of July and finish on Sunday the 26th by 5.30pm.

All tools and materials are provided during the workshops and you can take home with you what you forage and the rope you make. If you came to previous workshops, I hope you are assured that we will have plenty of new techniques and ideas for your hands to explore as well as practicing your existing rope making and knot tying skills.
All abilities are welcome, both more experienced crafters and those who are complete beginners at making things by hand. I am confident to meet you right where you are, help you get started and tailor the workshop to suit your skill level.
I look forward to teaching this summer course in beautiful Edale. If you have not been to this picturesque Derbyshire village in the Peak District nestled between the hills, you are in for a treat.

solidarity rate = reduced rate for anyone who have a lower income, or a student, or have a disability or is marginalised for any reason
standard rate = the fair estimated value of the workshop offered considering the facilitating craftsman’s experience and knowledge as well as expenses incurred (material costs + venue hire)
pay it forward rate = a slightly higher price for those who can afford to pay a bit more and value this offering. this extra allows the facilitator to offer spaces at a reduced rate and free places to those who could not afford to attend otherwise.
